CAQDAS Networking Project We provide practical support, training and information in the use of a range of software programs designed to assist qualitative data analysis. We provide platforms for debate concerning the methodological and epistemological issues arising from the use of such software packages and conduct research into methodological applications of CAQDAS under our new research project; Qualitative Innovations in CAQDAS (QUIC). QUIC builds on the work the CAQDAS Networking Project have been undertaking since 1994 to further explore technological and methodological developments in qualitative software and provide additional training and capacity building opportunities to fill identified gaps in support for software users. We have no commercial links to any software developer or supplier. The project is in receipt of its seventh consecutive term of funding by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Our research project, QUIC is currently funded by the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM). |

Forum: Qualitative Social Research FQS is a peer-reviewed multilingual online journal for qualitative research, established in 1999. FQS is interested in empirical studies conducted using qualitative methods, and in contributions that deal with the theory, methodology and use of qualitative research. Innovative ways of thinking, writing, researching and presenting are especially welcome. Upon request, we will try to realize Internet specific forms of interaction between authors and readers, e.g. organize an online discussion. We prefer contributions whose conceptualization—e.g. through co-authorship—already shows a multi-interdisciplinary and/or multinational perspective. |

QualQuant QualQuant is a site dedicated to social research methods—qualitative and quantitative alike. It’s grounded in a simple idea expressed by H. Russell Bernard in his introduction to the Handbook of Methods in Cultural Anthropology (1998): "Whatever our epistemological differences, the actual methods by which we collect and analyze our data belong to everyone across the social sciences." We believe that social researchers should be fluent in the full range of methods for collecting and analyzing data. The questions we ask, rather than ideological commitments, drive the choice of one method over another in any particular situation. This website aims to help researchers choose the right tools, emphasizing the integration and complementary applications of qualitative and quantitative data and analysis. The site was first developed by Lance Gravlee and David Kennedy in 2002, while we were finishing our PhDs in anthropology at the University of Florida. It is now maintained by Alan Schultz, Lance Gravlee, and H. Russell Bernard to support NSF-funded training opportunities in methods for cultural anthropologists. |
