Summer School of Ethnographic Filmmaking

In recent years, social sciences have seen a significant growth of interest in audiovisual communication. Photography, film or the so-called new media constitute the subject matter of analysis, serve as research tools, and (as media) present information relevant to social science research.

The Summer School of Ethnographic Filmmaking aims to encourage young social science researchers and university lectures of visual ethnography and visual studies not only from the Visegrad region to increase practical skills needed to produce ethnographic documentary films and to provide them with required experience in the process of filmmaking - from producing an initial idea and script, through shooting, to editing and screening.

The courses offer both practical and theoretical sessions, participants will learn how to use camera and editing software as well as theoretical and historical foundations of ethnographic film and contemporary anthropological perspectives allowing the study of Central European socio-cultural contexts.

The Summer School is organized as an intensive two week training programme in the above mentioned skills led by profesional visual anthropologists and documentary film-makers and take place in socially and culturally mixed environment of Czech-German border region.
